The project was born in 2021 thanks to a collaboration between our Association and a group of Italian guys from the “Missioni Onlus” Association, very active in the field of international cooperation. All of them have been involved with great enthusiasm in the construction of a real football field, including a fence and changing rooms, in Nyanza, in the south of the country. In Rwanda, then, the project found the effective collaboration of the mayor of Nyanza and Eric Eugene Murangwa, a well-known footballer and member of the largest local football team: Rayon Sports. Eric, a genocide survivor, is the founder of Future for Hope, Peace and Unity, an association dedicated to young people and their empowerment, as Eric considers football a very effective tool to promote tolerance and unity among them. The aim of the project is to offer the many children in difficulty who live in that area important moments of sociality, developing in them one of the fundamental values: mutual respect.
There are about 200 young people involved and training sessions, meeting opportunities, training, and tournaments with pupils from other schools in the country are planned for them.
The football field was inaugurated in July 2022 in the presence of Italian lenders and an incredible crowd also made up of the many children, of all ages, who attend the schools in that district and who will use them.
